In addition to our love of skating, ORD is dedicated to strengthening ties with our community and this beautiful, vibrant, diverse city that we call home. Our league’s Events Committee does a fantastic job networking and organizing events connecting ORD with the Orlando community, meaning our skaters have had the privilege of volunteering for some iconic Orlando events such as Fringe festival, Best Damn Race, the Orlando Pride parade, IOA Corporate 5k, and Girl’s Rock Camp.

Some events are just for fun and team building within the league- we like to unwind every so often and gather for a few rounds of trivia and brews, and we’ve been known to host the occasional ice cream social. For our “Share the Love” campaign in February, we focused on the simple but powerful act of spreading kindness, including a trail skate on the West Orange trail while handing out goodies and Valentines to those we met.

We like to have fun while also giving back. Earlier this month, several skaters spent their Saturday helping out by taking on some yard work and clean up at CARE Animal sanctuary. One of our skaters is a welder by day (looking at you, Madame Deadite!) and was able to assist with some repairs on the animal enclosures as well, helping ensure a safer and more secure home for these beautiful and exotic creatures. After helping out on the grounds, our skaters were rewarded by getting some quality time with some of the furry residents of CARE, including skunks, foxes, goats and monkeys!

Last week at our practices, we collected non-perishables for a food drive with United Against Poverty Orlando to help put food on the tables of Central Florida’s families in need. Now that school is out, many children who rely on the school lunch program look to United Against Poverty to keep them from going without during the summer.

We’re also always down to show our love and support for the LGBT community, which many of our skaters are a part of. We love participating in Pride events- in fact, in honor of pride month, our line of ORD rainbow shirts are available on TeeSpring and 100% of the proceeds will go to Equality Florida, who support the Floridian LGBT community.

Next, ORD will be representing at the Falcon Flea Pop-Up Market on Sunday, June 23rd, a very fun event featuring lots of unique and one-of-a-kind vendors and artisans. Swing by and say hi, and while you’re at it, peruse some of our cool new merch!

We love an opportunity to get out and meet others from our community, and if there’s a chance we can do that on skates- hey, even better! ORD is dedicated to giving back to our community, which has always been welcoming and supportive of us. Do you need a few extra helping hands at your next event, or are you interested in partnering with us? Reach out to our Events Director at And don’t forget to come see our next home game on Saturday June 29th at the Barnett Park Gymnasium.
